The Ten-Verse Kannon Sutra is a short Buddhist chant about compassion, mindfulness, and the bodhisattva Kannon, also known as Avalokiteshvara. It is often used as a daily recitation to help the mind become calm, clear, and kind. In very simple words, it says: “Remember Kannon, connect with Buddha, and return to your true mind.” The chant teaches that wisdom and compassion are not far away—they can be found in the present moment, in steady attention, and in the heart’s sincere practice. The sutra is called “Ten Verses” because it is made of ten short lines. Some versions also call it the “Life-Extending Ten-Line Kannon Sutra,” because people have long believed that reciting it brings peace, protection, and a longer, more meaningful life. Its power is not only in the words, but in the repetition. When chanted in the morning and evening, it can be a simple way to ground the mind, open the heart, and remember that compassion and awareness are already within us.
